Summary: An excellent, atmospheric account
Comment: Once the Sahara was wilderness, devoid of vehicle tracks, powerlines, tourists and 4x4s. In 1908 Harding-King of the Royal Geographical Society travelled by camel into its interior to explore, map and discover, and then wrote his account here. This is a book full of genuine feeling, well-written for both the traveller and the armchair explorer. He covers life in Egypt's Wadi Gedida, the New Valley oases of Kharga, Dakhla, Farafra and Bahareya, and the terrain and environment of the area as he saw it a hundred years ago. Those who know the oases today will easily recognise them from his lucid and concise accounts.A valuable resource for the desert traveller, a wonderful record of a simpler and less commercial age. The record of one of Britain's many great desert travellers, now available again. Well done, Darf Publishing, for bringing his voice back.
